There is a new volunteer service club on the horizon for people with disabilities called The Aktion Club of Summit County .

Membership is open to any adult who has a disability and a desire to become a leader in his/her community and wishes to provide service to others.

This opportunity is being organized through the Kiwanis Clubs of Akron, Bath-Richfield and the County of Summit Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, co-sponsored by Circle K Club of Akron University (Kiwanis division of college students) in association with the area chapter of People First of Summit County, self-advocates working together as a team to change their world and The Arc of Summit and Portage Counties.

Regular meetings (set around the Metro Bus Schedule) will generally be held on the second Thursday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Weaver Learning Center in Tallmadge in the B-Wing Conference Center .

Meetings will include planning sessions, discussion of upcoming volunteer and social opportunities, club business and light refreshments.

Help will be provided to arrange transportation for club members to and from upcoming service projects, fund raisers and social events. The providers and families of people with disabilities seeking membership are welcome to attend each of these opportunities.
